If you were divorced in Harris County, Texas you may obtain a certified copy of your final decree of divorce by contacting the Harris County District Clerk’s Office located at 201 Caroline, Houston, Texas 77002.  The telephone number is 713-755-5734.  The customer service office is located on the 2nd floor of the Civil Courthouse.

However, if you want to save yourself a trip into dowtown Houston, you can order a copy through Fax Express.  To download an order form visit the following web site:  www.hcdistrictclerk.com/Forms/pdf/FaxExpressOrderForm.pdf

You will need to provide a cause number (case #) and the styel of the case, (e.g., Smith v. Smith).  The district clerk’s office accepts payment via credit card, and certified copies cost $1.00 per page.  The district clerk’s office charges a nominal fee for this convenience.

Veronica says:

Q: I would like to know if a third party may request and pick up a certified copy of an existing divorce decree.

A: Due to the nature of private information contained in divorce decrees, it is possible that the district clerk will not permit a non-party to the case to view the case file or obtain a copy of the final decree.

Q: I am currently requesting a divorce decree to be faxed to me. How long does it take for me to recieve it?

A: Provided that the clerk’s office received your request and payment, it should not take longer than a week. This also assumes that the final decree has been signed by the judge and imaged. Hope this helps you.
